UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid form has been in question as the 2017–18 season of LaLiga began. The Los Blancos side won five trophies last season including LaLiga and UEFA Champions League, but it struggled at the beginning of this season. The forward trio, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale were suffering from poor form and injuries. Despite winning major trophies last season, this season was marred by draws and unexpected losses. However, the team has been recovering well now. After the 5-2 victory over Real Sociedad and the 3-1 victory over Paris St. Germain (PSG), the whites are looking to get back on winning ways.

The Los Blancos side registered a thrilling 5-3 victory over Real Betis side on Sunday. The game which should won easily became difficult as the whites were conceding in the first half. They recovered in the second half to clinch the victory. The double strike from Marco Asensio, a bullet header from Sergio Ramos, a strike from Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema’s placement secured the victory for Real Madrid. However, the team is still 17 points behind the league leader and arch rival FC Barcelona. The team getting on track is good news for the boss Zinedine Zidane. It is standing at fourth position in the points table.

Cristiano Ronaldo seemed getting back in his usual business and impressed the boss. Along with scoring a goal on Sunday, he also scored two goals against PSG in UEFA Champions League round of 16 in a 3-1 victory. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had undergone a lot of criticism over his form and lack of contribution to the team. Though he had difficult time at the beginning of the season as his team Real Madrid, he seemed gaining momentum as he scored ten goals in last six appearances in all competitions. The boss was pleased with his current form and performance against Real Betis. Zidane said, “He’s looking good and we’re thrilled to see him scoring and chasing things down up top.”

As the Real Madrid number 7 gets back on track, the question also remains whether the victories in last three games will give momentum to get back on winning streak. The win over PSG gave a morale boost to the Spanish side. The current form will take them further in points table. The vital players need to get back in form and get the team back on winning streak. The boss is thrilled with the comeback performance against Betis side. Moreover, injuries of Toni Kroos and Marcelo have been raising concerns for him. Toni Kroos, the center midfielder suffered left ligament injury prior to the PSG game. He would come back in two weeks as the injury does not seem serious. However, Marcelo, the left back suffered an injury blow at 30th minute in the game against Real Betis. The club and fans have been waiting to know severity of his hamstring injury.

The rejuvenated Real Madrid side looked promising in the second half of the game against Real Betis. The side need to continue the same form to get ahead in the points table. The Los Blancos boss added, “We’re heading into the business end of the season and every game is vital. To see all the players looking so sharp is fantastic and I’m very pleased.”
