Mark Zuckerberg, pledged to ‘fix’ significant issues in Facebook in 2018. He released a post on his Facebook page outlining his personal challenges for the year.
Facebook CEO has been known for publicly setting personal challenges at the beginning of new year. He has been setting resolutions since 2009. His past resolutions included wearing a tie every day, reading a book every week, building AI to run his home, and others.
Zuckerberg admitted the social media giant made too many mistakes while implementing policies and avoiding misuse of its tools. Social media firms have been criticized for spreading fake news prior to elections in the U.S. and other countries.
The California-based social media firm Facebook has been facing a lot of criticism over enabling Russia-linked political ads during 2016 presidential elections in the U.S.
Zuckerberg decided to give utmost attention to “important issues” regarding protection of community from hate and abuse, ensuring time spent on its platform is time well spent, and countering interference by nation states.
“We won’t prevent all mistakes or abuse, but we currently make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools,” Zuckerberg wrote. “If we’re successful this year then we’ll end 2018 on a much better trajectory.”
Facebook CEO believes he would learn more by giving close attention to these issues and doing something different entirely.
Zuckerberg outlined that cryptocurrency and encryption could decentralize power and he would study closely how it can be utilized at Facebook.
Some of the critics questioned the need to make these challenges as these challenges describe his job description as CEO.
