Bus Accident In Mexico

According to sources the tour bus accident which took place in Mexico’s Quintana Roo yesterday claimed twelve lives and left at least eighteen severely injured.

The bus in question was run by a company known as Costa Maya. The company stated that the passengers on the bus had been aboard a cruise ship prior to boarding the bus. The passengers were on an excursion to see some ancient ruins located in the state when the accident occurred.

The company, Costa Maya stated that all injured passengers were rushed to local hospitals immediately. It added that five have already been discharged while the remaining injured parties appear to be in stable condition.

Sources state that the bus was carrying a total of 31 passengers belonging to a myriad of nationalities including Brazil and Sweden. Reports state that a child whose nationality remained undisclosed was among the dead.

The tourists had been on their way to an archaeological heritage zone called Chacchoben. Chacchoben is an ancient Mayan ruin which is located south of the resort town of Tulum. Quintana Roo is one of Mexico’s premier tourist destinations and excursions to Chacchoben are very popular.

The site is reached via a relatively busy highway which is where the accident occurred. Sources state that the bus veered off road for reasons that remain unknown, resulting in the calamity. The government of Quintana Roo has stated that it will be taking steps to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The company, Costa Maya stated that all injured passengers were rushed to local hospitals immediately. It added that five have already been discharged while the remaining injured parties appear to be in stable condition.

This is not the first time Quintana Roo has been in the news for the wrong reasons. Just last year, the state received a great deal of negative press after 11 tourists were killed in a similar bus crash.
