Police arrested a middle-aged Indian man on molestation charges after a complaint was filed by an underage Bollywood actress travelling on the Delhi- Mumbai flight on Sunday.
The actress, Zaira Wasim is 17-years-old and took to her Instagram account when the incident first occurred. She stated on her account that a “middle-aged man” sitting behind her had roved his foot around her neck and back while she was drifting in and out of sleep.
Wasim is one of Bollywood’s newest finds and shot to fame in the 2016 Bollywood movie “Dangal”. The movie chronicled the true story of the Phogat girls who went on to become international wrestling champions.
Dangal has been India’s highest grossing film till date and it launched Zaira Wasim into a potentially illustrious career.
She is already the recipient of the prestigious National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, which was conferred upon her by the current President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
She shared the live video with her 400,000 follower-strong account. Wasim stated that she had attempted to film the man himself but the flight had been shrouded in darkness.
The flight in question was a Delhi-Mumbai charter by the airline Air Vistara. Wasim went on to accuse the airline of not doing enough to help her when she raised her issues.
However, she did not file an official complaint against the airline itself. Speaking of the event on her Instagram, Wasim stated, “I was sure of it. He kept nudging my shoulder and continued to move his foot up and down my back and neck”.
She added that she had originally believed the movement had been a consequence of the turbulence faced by the plane.
However, after a while she realized that the movement was deliberate. The man has been arrested and charged with molesting a minor.
