Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Turkey’s Foreign Minister gave a warning to Donald Trump, the U.S. President at the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brussels, Belgium on December 5. He said that Muslim countries will be enraged with United States if he calls Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.
He added, Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel capital, instead of Tel Aviv, could be the reason for bringing chaos in the region.
Senior administration officials at the White House informed President Trump will announce that the U.S. will recognize Jerusalem as the capital and shift the U.S. embassy there on December 6.
Commenting on the matter, Çavuşoğlu told CNBC, “Israel is trying to normalize relations with other Muslim countries, so it will not serve Israel well. I hope there will be no such decision by President Trump.”
He outlined the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital would be against the law. Taking such a step would lead to chaos in the region. Moreover, this decision would be against the UN resolutions and international law and international agreements.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister added, “As one of the P5 countries, I think the U.S. should respect UN resolutions more than anyone else.”
United States needs to support the agreement that had global backing.
“There is a deal and we support that. Not only the U.S. and Iran signed that deal, it was P5+1. The EU was also engaged,” added the minister.
