WhatsApp Introduces PiP

WhatsApp has launched a new feature for iPhone users, which lets them watch YouTube videos without interrupting their chats. The updated version, v2.17.81 for iPhone is available to download in the App Store and the changes in the update are listed in the What’s New section.

The new feature enables Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, which allows users to continue watching videos while navigating to another chat. Additionally, the company has rolled out a new feature to lock recording, which enables users to record without pressing the button down.

WABetaInfo spotted the update for the first time, and said that YouTube needs to be enabled using a server-side switch.

“When you receive a link to a YouTube video, you can now play it right within WhatsApp. With picture-in-picture, you can also keep watching the video while you navigate to another chat,” reads the App Store description.

Before the introduction of this feature, the YouTube video link will be redirected to YouTube app installed in the smartphone when users click on the link.

Moreover, the recent update would enable users to record long messages with ease. “Want to easily record long Voice Messages? When recording a Voice Message, just swipe up to lock recording so you can continue to record without keeping your finger down,” read the description.

WhatsApp is developing a new feature to permit users to switch from voice to video call rapidly during the voice call.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will introduce a new button in the new updated version. This will enable users to instantly switch from voice to video call without interrupting the ongoing voice call.
