New York terror attack

Citizens of the United States expressed shock in the wake of a terror attack in New York today. The attack took place when the driver of a truck climbed the cycle path and refused to stop. The attacker is believed to be an immigrant from Uzbekistan.

The attack has caused serious panic among citizens of the city. Reports state that at least eight people have been killed and close to 11 have experienced serious injuries.

Officials have identified the attacker as one Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan who arrived in the U.S. in 2010.

Officials have confirmed that the event was a terror attack. Saipov used a white pick-up truck to conduct the attack and was shot by police officers when he would not stop

Authorities stated that they had recovered a number of articles from the seized vehicle. This included a note which referred to the so-called Islamic State. Saipov’s refusal to surrender peacefully resulted in police resorting to force. Reports state that the attacker is now in the hospital.

Speaking of the attack, New York’s Mayor, Bill de Blasio stated that it was a “cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians”. He informed the media that the city was aware that the attacker intended to frighten them.

He added that the attacker clearly had no idea that New Yorkers were “strong” and “resilient”. He promised that they would never lose their spirits to “an act of violence” meant to intimidate them.

U.S. President, Donald Trump also responded to the attacks, taking to Twitter to express his thoughts. He wrote, “My thoughts, condolences, and prayers to the victims and families of the New York City terrorist attack. God and your country are with you!”

Reports state that the injuries sustained by most pedestrians have been manageable. New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner, James O’Neil stated that the injured had “serious but non-life threatening” injuries.

Officials have stated that the attack was an isolated incident and not part of a larger plot.
