Golf star Lexi Thompson has recently stated that her love for exercise has helped her hone her golfing game. The 22-year-old golfer, who is currently ranked third in the world, has proven her game is on the way up.
However, her year did have a rather rocky start. In the season’s first major competition, held in California, she suffered a penalty on account of an infraction noticed by a TV viewer.
She lost that match to South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu, however, her composure on the course earned her the lover and loyalty of both fans and social media.
That was only the beginning of the challenges she would have to face. In May of 2017, her mother was diagnosed with cancer while her grandmother passed away in September 2017. Despite these hardships she remained consistent with her game.
Regardless of all her success and achievements Thompson declares she is just a “regular 22-year-old girl.”
Speaking of her fame to CNN’s Living Golf she said, “It’s something I’ve just kind of gotten used to. I don’t see myself as famous in that way. ”
She added “I just play golf professionally for a living. I guess it’s a lot different than the normal 22-year-old, but it’s great to see just the amount of fan support that I do get and it’s part of being a professional athlete. That’s what comes with it.”
Her exercise regime has helped her reach where she is today. She claims that if she did not enjoy the exercise, she would never have managed to reach this stage. She insists the exercise has helped her hone her golfing skills.
Thompson’s hard work led to achieving her No. 3 world rank. She also won two tournaments in 2017, and was instrumental in Team USA retaining the Solheim Cup in August 2017.
With earnings that have exceeded $7 million so far, it is quite certain that Lexi Thompson is not just a regular 22- year- old girl.
