Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the BRICS platform to address the issue of terrorism arising from Pakistan-based terror groups. BRICS countries collectively criticized Pakistan for supporting violence in member countries
The BRICS Xiamen Declaration states, “We deplore all terrorist attacks worldwide, including attacks in BRICS countries, and condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations where committed and by whomsoever and stress that there can be no justification.”
The “BRICS Xiamen Declaration” condemned Pakistan-based Haqqani Network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al-Qaeda, and the Taliban. The members raised concerns about security and violence caused by terror outfits apart from pressing for greater efficiency in tackling terrorism.
“All BRICS leaders came up strongly in condemning terror in all its manifestation” an MEA spokeswoman stated. Adding to this, she said, “Members in BRICS countries have been victims of terrorism, and today’s declaration acknowledges that we must work collectively.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the moment to pitch for forming a body that will cater to the financial needs of developing nations. Modi also offered to uplift the economies of the member countries and other developing nations.
